FREE Rag Quilt Calculator!

I finally figured out how I could add my handy dandy calculator to the blog!

This file will walk you through the math of fabric requirements for making a rag quilt. It will give you number of squares needed for the size quilt you want PLUS the amount of fabric required.

I hope you find this calculator as useful as I do! Please remember to show your thanks & visit Fabrics N Quilts for all your quilting needs on eBay & Etsy!

Wind & Storms this afternoon claim a Tomato Victim

Is that title dramatic enough?

A strong storm blew into town & took down one of my tomato plants this afternoon. Well, actually, it took down 4 of them...but one was beyond repair. Poor thing...it was so full of fruit!

So, I guess it's fried green tomatoes for dinner :)

Where has the year gone? Its already time for the "sale"

I live in the "home of the 127 corridor sale". around here, "the World's Longest Yard Sale" is just known as "the sale". If you are an HGTV junkie like I used to be when they had craft shows, you have probably seen the annual specials.

If you don't want to follow those links, I'll just tell you about it. The yard sale runs from Defiance, Ohio to Gadsden, Alabama...600+ miles. "The sale" officially lasts 4 days, beginning on the 1st Thursday of each August lasting through Sunday. I say officially, because the sellers start setting up their tents, tables and wares on the Monday (or earlier) before the official start date. Sellers then have time to be buyers!

I will also remind you that most of "the sale" is in the "Bible Belt". Don't be amazed that there are less sellers on Sunday...we are somewhere more important that morning. You will find some, but it will be much more hit & miss. I say that though to say this...those folks that pack it in on Saturday may be in a better mood to negotiate late on Saturday...and those on Sunday will be on Sunday afternoon. I've never met a person that enjoyed setting up or packing up the leftovers of a yard sale in my life. BUT, be reasonable...If I could count the number of times I was asked if I would take less for an item I am selling for a dime, you would be amazed...come on...its a dime!

If it was once purchased new, you can probably find it somewhere along the US Highway 127 between August 2nd & 10th. If you roll through Jamestown TN, stop by & see us & let me know you heard it here!

Custom Orders & Garden Veggies

I am wrapping up my last custom orders today and took a break in between projects to visit my veggies in the garden. I freed them of some weeds and now am back in the AC, re energized to get back to sewing.

Our corn is 6-7 feet & tasseling, so yummy sweet corn goodness is about a month away :) YAY!

We have canned a couple dozen jars of green beans and made a dozen jars of blackberry jam (YUM)

The tomatoes will probably overtake us in the next week. But that's ok by me! I can't wait to make chicken cacciatore.

Sampler Quilt from Block Swap nearing completion!

I have assembled the quilt top from the block swap I recently did with my eBay group, Quilter's Corner.

I'll add my borders & then decide...who or how to quilt. I may just send this one off for machine quilting. A little more instant gratification that way! I still have last winter's hand quilting project on my quilt frame. I try to finish one every winter. I guess since its almost 90 outside, I have to admit that winter is over. I suppose I will work on it more once I get this top finished.

Well, I am on my way!

Did I mention I was redoing the last section of old tile floor in our Brick & Mortar? I have already used this technique in other areas with great success. We have maps in one room & dress patterns by the fabrics. So, the rest of the store will be done in newspapers!

This is basically decoupage, but with a little stronger agents involved. Here's a preview of the section I finished today.

The papers used in this section are from 1908-1932. Great ads!!!
