2009 Projects ~ #80 Lap Quilt & Table Trivet

If it were me, I would call this one Go Bright, or Go Home (with me).

I gravitate towards warmer tones, so this is a big leap for me. I was happy to push my limits on this day-brightener for my brother.

The body of the quilt is quilted in the ditch, in the pattern. I wanted the quilt to drape and be real wrapable (for those cold South Florida nights).

The border is more tightly quilted in free motion shells. Thanks to the 365 days of free motion quilting for this pattern!

Here are the other related posts on this project:

Decisions, Decisions

The Moda batik on the back is a very densly woven fabric and very hard to hand sew, so after binding the table trivet by hand, I opted to use the stipple stitch on my sewing machine to do the binding on the quilt.

The Big Reveal

What can a couple gallons of paint, a sore back & some DIY sweat equity give you?

Well, not a completed project, but a new look for sure!

Enjoy the pics, such as they are on this snowy & rainy day (which didn't make for good lighting).

Proud to be our county's only source of hand embroidery supplies. An art not to be lost!

Polka Dots, Calico's and Gingham (oh, my!)

Batiks, solids, and homespun

Our stash builder wall! Each only $4.00 per yard

Children's themes and collections, and a bit of the notions wall too

If you noticed the floor, yes, they are really dress patterns & newspapers. The papers date from 1908, 1922, and 1932. I put them down one at a time with wallpaper paste & when dry used polyuerethene to seal it. That project was NOT done this week, but last year....I'm not that DIY crazy to not sleep!

2009 Projects ~ Something for me! A tablerunner PLUS

Twice a month I host a Sit N Sew in our brick & mortar store. Earlier this month, I pulled a pattern for nice big tablerunner that was quick & easy enough to make before all the holiday parties.

I decided to use mine in a different way.

I have a very useful but UGLY glass display cabinet.

Isn't it prettier now?

I used velcro on the top edge of each side of drape and along the bottom of the table runner. This way I can swap out the runner with the seasons. Isn't this a much more inviting check out counter?!

2009 Projects ~ Pink & Brown Dots Lap Quilt

Simply cute & fun. What a great gift for this customer's best girl friend! She labored over what sentiment to put on her label. I think she came up with a winner.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I love snow. Actually, I love snow in the Southeast. Nice & white & fluffy...and then it's gone. Having grown up in "the great white north" US, I remember snow in February as gray, dirty, depressing.

This is so much better! This is a wet snow, so it's sticking very nicely to sides of trees and branches. Makes for pretty pictures!

2009 Projects ~ Christmas Custom Orders ~ A bag for everyone!

A bag for everyone & everyone thier own bag! My biggest local fan has just received her latest customized gifts for her Christmas List! Santa & the elves here at FabricsNQuilts just delivered these:

Brothers Ashton & Ethan will be styling as they go to Grandma's, church or school with Lightning McQueen!

(yes, I took the pics on top of a vintage pinball machine...it was the cleanest surface at the time)

Sister-In-Law Diane has a rugged husband, but holds on to her girly side too in this cammo & polka dot creation. Best of both worlds!

And little Rylee will be the most stylish Princess on the block sporting her goodies in this new diaper bag. (yes, I clipped the loose green thread)

2009 Projects ~ Twin Rag Quilt & Valances

So fun to work with someone to create a keepsake for thier child AND new home. This quilt design started with an antique picture, which is the room's focal point. The process of design is so great to get to interpret a wish into fabric and, eventually, a quilt.

What's almost off my wall

In my preview last Monday, I showed you the proposed layout for this lap quilt.
I hope to get this off the wall to ready to quilt by the end of the day.
Hey, we all have goals, right?!

We've hung the AQT Quilt Trail Block

We brainstormed for a while on hanging this block. We really didn't want to go to the hassle of building a fence to hang our block on, and Mr. FNQ had the brilliant idea of suspending the block from the railing of the outside staircase.
No holes in this old building & no fence to build; Win:Win!
Our block will be included in the Appalachian Quilt Trail. Find out more at www.vacationaqt.com

Batik Watercolor Quilt Progress~ 2 more blocks & a fix

You may remember this block from before, but now it is fixed :)

Here are the 2 new blocks. This puts me at 7 done, out of 18 (I think).

What's on my Wall

I got started on the new tropical inspired lap quilt over the weekend. This is just pinned to the wall, so I may change the layout, but I like the effect of putting the batik corners together. Changes the focus from the block to the design made by the corners.
More on that later....

2009 Projects ~ Baby Boy Train Rag Quilt

I knew this train flannel had to be a primary colors rag quilt as soon as I saw it!

I just love the primary colors in a nursery. So vibrant!

Decisions Decisions

I am working on a bright tropical lap quilt, using this pattern. I am certain that the sunset fabric in the center is my focal fabric, the block center & I am pretty set on the yellow as the background color. But I am undecided on the accent colors that make the corners & pinwheels.

hmmmm... I think I like this first one best. teal pinwheels & the batik for the corners.....

This one feels too BLAH with the activity in the focus fabric

nope....the purples are fighting, aren't they?!

and another 2 batik blocks done.

We are coming right along! Here are the 2 latest blocks in the great batik project! *wink*

Another UFO begins...

Do you ever feel just a twinge of guilt when you start a new project before you have finished the last one (ok, ones...)?

Well I do on this one. But won't it be colorful?! I have never made an entirely batik quilt before, so I am excited to start this one, finally. I think I washed these fabrics 6 months ago & they have been staring at me ever since.

The quilt top will be a sampler, so I can show the blocks as I get them done. Lots of stars!

2009 Projects ~Vintage Chenille Baby Girl Tumbler Rag Quilt

Inspired by one of my recent creations, a local customer was inspired to add some brown to a quilt for a baby shower gift. I think she was on to something!
