We missed the last 2 weeks, but here we are again today, with a tip to share. Today is another beginning quilter's tip.
Have you ever cut a strip from a folded piece of fabric, only to unfold & find you created, not one nice straight strip, but a "V"?
Here are your tips:
I know not everyone has a large cutting mat & long ruler, but I couldn't live without mine. If you do have to move your fabric to cut the entire strip, you will need to be careful to repeat steps.
- Lay out your folded piece of fabric on your mat. Line up the fold with one of the grid lines on your mat.
- Place your ruler so that it is squared up with your mat, thus it is square with the fold of your fabric.
- trim the cut edge of the fabric to be square with the fold
- measure the width of the cut you wish to make (2.5" for a jelly roll strip, for example) and carefully cut.
- voila!

Great tip! Thanks for sharing. It's the little details like this that make nicer quilts.
Good idea to keep doing these tips, as not everyone is an "expert".
