Our one and only child, our daughter, was very young. It was Christmas Eve and we had just eaten a large meal. We were sitting in our livingroom enjoying tea after our meal. My husband stirred his teacup with a spoon - it did sound like a bell. Our daughter's head turned immediately to the window and her eyes grew as big as saucers - she thought Santa had arrived. That moment is still so special to me. rpshandATnsDOTsympaticoDOTca

Nanbon44 said...

when I was small, my dad said Santa wasn't coming and that there wouldn't be anything under the tree because he couldn't afford it. I really didnt believe him until I woke Christmas Day and there was nothing, No gifts, no filled stocking, no coloring book or candy cane. I was so upset and even though weeks later my Chistmas gift was new shoes it just wasn't the same... It carried over to my adult life and when I heard of a family in need during the holidays I did my best to make sure Santa visited the child.. I would leave gifts on the porch from Santa and the parents didn't know who left them.. I still follow that holiday tradition and will as long as I can.. I also now make quilts for nursing homes, ill children, cancer patients and a abused women and children's shelter. That one Christmas when I recieved no gifts has helped so many and will until I am no longer able.. I also now have my children helping and I hope they will continue my journey after I am gone.

Christmas Story: One year when I was very young, my aunt's cat had kittens and I fell in love with one, oh how I wanted that kitty. When I was a kid, we used to take the train from Miami to North Carolina every year - about a 24 hour trip. One year, everything that could go wrong with the train did - it broke down, the observation car caught on fire - and that 24 hour trip turned into a four day trip! We got off the train with sixteen bags of oranges we won playing bingo....

My favorite holiday was when I was a child and my mom would bake and cook for days ahead of Christmas day. We would have about 20 family members over to celebrate the day and have an excellent meal. All of the new family, my siblings and their children are now all over the country, and we now have "mini" versions of what we used to do.

A favorite Holiday Story:

My favorite memory is from when I was young. It was the first Christmas that my little brother was old enough to understand what Santa was, and what he did. He was so excited he didn't sleep a wink and when my parents FINALLY let him out of his room to see the tree he was so excited he tore open all the presents under the tree. It didn't matter who they were for or what was in them he just had to open them and he opened them all! Just like a shredder! He was even shaking! It makes me warm to think of that now. <3
