It was a literary quilting weekend

yes, literary, not literally Smile.  It’s a rainy day here, so my pictures are not fabulous

I was able to put the finishing touches on my Dr. Seuss Hopscotch quilt

hopscotch seuss

The sashing looks very dark in the pic, but it’s Kona nightfall (a dark navy blue).  We have kits for this quilt, or just the pattern listed for you.  This is a great beginner quilt pattern that is both charm pack & fat quarter friendly.

and my Dick & Jane quilt.

Dick & Janedick jane sally

I did a really tight stipple in the blue border and a larger scale in the red.  In the background of each block, I did ripples.

I used Aurifil solid white, top 40 wt & bobbin 50 wt, to quilt both.  yummy goodness abounds!

Since everyone loves Dick & Jane and I am celebrating a finish, this panel is today’s Deal of the Day , snap it up at just $4 before they are gone!

The long wait for Ruby is over

55030

Today “Big Brown” brought us our first delivery of the beautiful new line from Bonnie & Camille, Ruby.  Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs & Fat Quarter Bundles are fun, bright & ready to head to your quilting studio.

Bonnie & Camille tell us that Ruby is a small town girl with big dreams, and even bigger style. She works at the town ice cream parlor in her favorite red polka dot dress and can be found doing the jitterbug with her best girlfriends at the Country Diner on the weekends. This cheery line is full of Ruby’s favorites, including a smattering of soft flannels, in red and aqua, retro flowers, vintage prints and pretty little scallops.

We made these.

Check out all the patterns using Ruby fabrics in the cover photos for even more inspiration.  All these patterns are written by Bonnie & Camille.

Jamestown TN Quilt Show-Show and Tell

After a rainy week from Tropical Storm Lee, we were blessed with a beautiful weekend for Quilting on the Plateau, my guild’s biannual quilt show.

Our guild is a great group of loving women who are so supportive and kind.  I have had more fun working with them on this show than on any project in recent memory.  I’ve shared our ribbons & shirts with you, now on to the quilts!

Monticello Quilt Show–Show and Tell

The wonderful quilters of the Contented Heart Quilt Guild put on a beautiful show every labor day in the charming city of Monticello, Kentucky.  I love the categories for the show; they focus on quilts completed by 1 person.  All quilts that are a collaborative effort are in 1 category.

Here were some of my favorites from this year’s show.  I apologize in advance for blurry pics…my camera died & I had to resort to the phone camera.

This quilt took first place in the Applique category, as well as viewer’s choice.  This quilt, Little Brown Bird, was made by Virginia A. Cloud of Somerset, KY.  It is very hard to see, but many of the baskets were actually woven strips of fabric.

This quilt, Fairies, was made by Debbie Hart of Allardt, TN.  This quilt won Second place in the Applique category.

This beautiful whole cloth quilt was made by a long-standing member of the guild, but unfortunately my photo of her label is too fuzzy for me to read & give proper credit Sad smile

These 2 quilts competed in the miniatures category.  The 2nd place, Freedom Stars, was about 15” square…now reconsider those points for a sec…whew!  This was made by Pat Kuhns of Lincoln, NE.  Grandmother’s Flower Garden was made by Jennifer Bowen of Williamstown, KY

These are the Civil War challenge blocks.  Debbie Hart of Allardt, TN won 1st place.

Blooms & Baskets was also made by Virginia A. Cloud of Somerset, KY.

Our Tennessee Puzzle won second place in the Collaboration Quilt category.  What a great surprise!

2011-09-03 08.40.50.jpg

Patsy Littrell’s (Allardt, TN)  houses won an honorable mention in the Collaboration quilt category.  Only 2 honorable mentions were given by the judges in all categories.

There were 142 entries in this beautiful show and no way I could show them all.  As always, it was my pleasure to participate in this great quilt show!
