Disappearing 4 Patch Lap Quilt

disappearing4patch-001

Another UFO bites the dust!  I made this top last October with Enchanted Garden charms.  I don’t tend to gravitate toward those romanticy florals, but this one worked for me.  It had great tonals and a Monet feel to the floral prints.

I completely quilted this top as my 2nd practice quilt on the long arm.  Then I unquilted it, folded it up, and left it in a lump on my project table.

This past week, I was made another run at the quilting, and am so much happier with the results.  The first quilting was a stipple meander & I requilted with scrolls & loops.

I even did bias cut binding on this one.  I never do that if there is no curve.  The Ruby sherbet stripe was a great match & the design on bias is much more interesting.

So this quilt feels like a real achievement.  It’s just a simple pattern, but for all it went through to be finished, it makes me happy.

The pattern is called a Disappearing Four Patch.  I’ve uploaded a quick down & dirty pattern to our website.  You can use this pattern with any size square.  I gave dimensions for what I made only.  If videos help you, click here to go to youtube.  I find having the pattern while I sew is easier.  Since my computer is not in my sewing space, I get frustrated having to run between rooms when using a video only.  Enjoy!

Bee Yourself Appliqued Hexagon Quilt

It’s a rainy day here in TN, so an indoor picture it is!

Bee Yourself Applique Quilt

This quick & fun quilt is made with the Bee Yourself line of fabric.  I used the Hexagon ruler & cut a 5.5” strip of each fabric, then cut the hexagons from that.  I placed the raw edged pieces on the 1.5 yards of yellow background willy nilly until I liked the overall honeycomb design.

Using a glue stick, I tacked them in place then pinned rick rack around the raw edges.

When I zig zag stitch the rick rack in place, I catch the raw edge of the hexie too.  easy peasy!

I quilted the background with loopty-lou’s and stitched a flower motif in each hexie.  My first Pouncing experience on the long arm (more practice needed for sure).

this is a quick & easy project you could tackle in a weekend, if you can also tackle your interruptions Smile

honeycomb red 9900hc 16

Moda’s newest precut has just arrived!  6” (point to point) precut hexagons come in packs of 40.  The great thing is that EVERY pack includes a plastic template with marking holes pre-punched too.

Honeycombs are packed in single colors, not in color families.  Great for adding consistency to your project (all flower centers match, for example).  And with the included plastic template, no need to buy a new template to cut your coordinating fabrics!

5 colors in stock & shipping now:  Red, Blue, Robins Egg, Snow, & Silver.

Moda will release its first designer collection of hexies in May from the Happy Go Lucky collection by Bonnie & Camille.  Until then, enjoy the bella solids!

Little lambs for a new arrival

Aliana Lamb Quilt-001

This is the second top I have made in this pattern for this wonderful lady.  A gift to each of her grandchildren upon their arrival.

The first top was is much more subdued tones (here) and was hand quilted for her by a family friend.

I was able to finish this one all the way through and had such a good time mixing piecing, applique, machine and hand embroidery.

Aliana Lamb Quilt

This nursery is decorated in a ladybug motif, thus the background & cornerstones in the borders.  There are also a few small lady bugs visiting some of the flowers.  The machine embroidered lady bugs all have a loopy trail, so that was my inspiration for the quilting design.  The lambs were quilted in a tight scroll to hopefully give the impression of the wool.

Restocking- Cape Ann Brushed Cotton Toile

We loved this fabric so much, we didn’t want to be without it!

Brushed cotton is cotton fabric which is brushed to remove all the excess lint and fibres from the fabric. This usually leaves an ultra soft, smooth finish. This fabric is highly absorbent, strong and more resilient.

These 2 “indian summer” prints are beautifully drawn and so soft.  They will remind you of a flannel to the touch, but with a very low nap.

These would be wonderful backing fabrics for your next baby quilt.
