Scrap Quilt Challenge Sponsor Spotlight-Aurifil

aurifil

It was love at first stitch for me.  My machine loved the way Aurifil 50 weight thread glided through and she made the best stitches of her life.  I think I remember her saying, “where have you been all my life?” {insert swoon}

I only piece with the mako 50.  My fave color is 2600.  “Dove” is the perfect color to piece anything.  I do not change threads when I piece.  This soft gray color cone stays threaded all the time.

 2600

If you have a fave like me, did you know it’s available on 6400 meter cones, as well as the 1300 meter above?  What’s more sad when you are in a piecing groove than an empty spool?

I also use it in the bobbin when long arm quilting.

And the diversity of thread options will make your head spin!  4 weights of cotton, wool, invisible, polyester, cotton floss…oh my!

Aurifil is a huge supporter of the indie sewing world.  They sponsor a great Quilts of Valor program, Under our Wings (learn more here), support bloggers and small shops with giveaway sponsorships, and travel the world to educate quilters and shop owners on the powers of good thread.

Besides the individual spools we can collect & display like little spool jewels, Aurifil also offers collections curated by some of today’s most popular designers.

You have a chance to win one of these beautiful curations when you enter your quilt in the Scrap Quilt Challenge!

Aurifil Prizes #sqc4

Did you know you can download color cards, spool images & color names from the Aurifil website?  You can even save them to your Dropbox so they are easy to find on all your devices!  We use them all the time.

To show some early love and give you a chance to quilt your Challenge quilt with Aurifil, we’re going to give away these 3 spools (1300m each) of 40wt mako right now!  Light Red Orange, Grey & Yellow.

Aurifil giveaway #sqc4

Leave a comment on your favorite thing about Aurifil (if you can’t name just ONE, it’s ok, we understand…tell it all).  If you have never used it, tell us about the project you’ll use the thread on if you are the lucky winner!

Giveaway closes August 31.

I hope you are making great progress on your scrap bin and your Challenge quilt!  Don’t forget we have a Facebook group for show & tell and quilting fun in general.  We share lots of free patterns there too!

I've actually felt people swoon when they talk about their Aurifil experience. I've used some that came as a sample when I bought a new longarm and just now put in an order for more.

I love aurifil . I use it exclusively for piecing and it's included in my thread stash for my long arm. Can't say enough good things about it. Katn@bellsouth.net

Actually, when I win any thread I donate it to quilters who can't afford many of the necessities for our craft. Starting them on good thread is as important as a good machine and good supplies.

I have not used theAurifil thread yet but I have heard that is fantastic, I would love to win a spool!

I've never had the pleasure of using Aurifil thread, its not available in stores near me. I would love to try it.

I guess I'm one of the few that haven't tried it yet. I would love to try it out and those colors would be great on a fall project.
Thanks for a chance to win!

I haven't used Aurifil thread yet but I'm hoping to try it soon. I just ordered some from Green Fairy Quilts in Alison Glass colors.

I love Aurifil! I have several of the collections . I need a spool of the soft dove.

My favorite thing about Aurifil is how smoothly it sews. It flows through the needle so nicely and enhances the quilt.

I love your blog, store, and the Scrap Quilt Challenge! I also ADORE Aurifil. It's the best I've found, and I use it in my computerized machines, and the vintage. It doesn't break easily, so you can sew longer, without rethreading. You get more on the bobbin because it's thin, and the spool is big, so price per inch is actually lower than other brands. Not to mention frustration free, so it's really a bargain. The colors are gorgeous, too. I need to collect a few more 40wt colors, for making clothes and for quilting with a little more detail. Now, I guess I better get more serious about doing another scrap quilt! Thanks.

I have just a couple sample spools of aurifil and haven't jumped on the bandwagon just yet. I did try it once for stitching down a binding (because it was the perfect color) and it was great for that. I do love that it comes in many colors and weights so I really must try it out!

The 50 wt. is great for free-motion background fillers and stippling. The texture is created without thread build-up.

I have never used Aurifil thread for a project, but I do have a few small spools to try. If I were to win, I have a purple and yellow star quilt that I would love to use the yellow on!

I was sent a sample cone of some varigated, and I love how it sews & quilts. It also worked in my embroidery machine for some very fine stitching (letters). I love the thread.

I've never used Aurifil since it is kind of expensive. I've got it on my list to get when I can. I have a couple of quilts I have in mind to make soon that I would use this thread on.

QuiltSue said...

I have never used this thread, as it's not easy to find in the UK. I'd love to try it on the next quilt that's going on my Long Arm.

meemersmom said...

I like to use Auriful thread because it has improved the accuracy of my piecing, has very low lint, and is the perfect thread to complement fine quilting stitches on smaller projects or fill designs.

There are sew many reasons I love AuriFil thread. How smoothly it glides along and no lint are but a few... Thank you for this chance to win some AuriFil!

PersimonDreams said...

I love everything about Aurifil thread! Once I started using it there was never even another option in my mind. My machine(s) love it, the colors are fabulous and the boxes are just so much fun! Aurifil makes me happy!

Sheila said...

I love Aurifil threads. Won a couple packs of several colors in a couple blog drawings and was gifted a pack of several colors. I've used them to quilt small baby quilts and doing sewing machine binding. My sewing machine sews better and with less lint when I use Aurifil threads. Definitely a good quality thread.

Pat Sloan introduced me to Aurifil and I really like it. My one problem is that it is only at one store around here and the color selection is limited. I'll have to find an online store. It quilts so beautifully. Thanks for the chance!

Tabitha Keener said...

I'm fairly new at all sewing but I've tried Aurifil and it is awesomeness to sew with! It does glide nicely and I can see it well to hand sew, and don't get me started on the colors! They have so many I just want to collect them like I do fabric! Thanks for the giveaway, I don't have these colors and it would be great to win! :)

At first, I only used Aurifil for piecing. I find that I don't lose a precious bit of space when I iron my seams. Recently, I started using it when quilting and I find I get less breakage and have smoother, more consistent stitches. My machine is usually threaded with 2021 for piecing, but I also use 2311, and 2600.

Bethany said...

Aurifil is the best! I love the color selection and the quality is absolutely wonderful. I will never go back to sewing with another thread! Thank you for the giveaway!

Louise said...

I'm a new quilter and was introduced to Aurifil right at the start. So I'm totally spoiled!

What I like best is how active the company is in the on-line quilting world, especially in social media. I have found so many great quilty people on Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram because Alex Veronelli has linked to them.

I live on a boat, so it's hard for me to get to quilt shops and shows. The internet is my #1 source of tutorials and inspiration. Aurifil is an important part of that.

SewLittleToSay said...

I love that it comes in such a range of colours and weights. (That the base of the spool can be removed and put on the other end is also pretty cool.)

I have a few cones of Aurifil that I use for quilting, but I've never pieced with it...hmmm....sounds good to me!

Turquoise is my fav color and Aurifil has plenty in that hue!
I love it because its just plain beautiful...every shade, it adds such depth and texture to anything I quilt. Definitely will try "Dove" for my next projects, which are totes, mini quilts.

I am new to quilting, and I didn't even consider asking about what thread I should use. I am excited to try Aurifil on my next project. Those colors would be lovely with fall-colored fabrics !

I love the texture of the thread and how it "melts" into the fabric. It also is so much cleaner, not leaving my machine as linty. And the colors!!!

Leslie said...

I've never used Aurifil but have been thinking about searching for some to use when I get to quilting my current project.

KathleenD said...

I've heard so many great things about Aurifil thread, but, I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet... IF I'm the lucky winner of your giveaway, I would use the yellow thread to quilt a denim backed rag quilt that uses various yellows and autumn toned homespun fabric for the top. I have a jelly roll of Christmas fabrics which I would happily use the red and green threads to quilt.
Thanks for this opportunity.

CarolAnn said...

I could not believe how wonderful this thread is. After I tried a free small spool that was included in a fabric order I ordered more. My machine loves this thread! It's the only thread I use now.

DebrafromMD said...

I have been using Aurifil thread for many years. It's wonderful, but one of my favorite things is how much thread can be wound on a bobbin. Fewer bobbin changes makes my quilting go so much faster.

Recently got my first try at some Aurofil at a local quilt store and am in love with the way it glides through my machine. It hasn't snagged up, pulled apart or broken for not reason yet! What's not to love about that?

Diane said...

When I use aurifil to hand sew a binding, it doesn't keep breaking like some threads do.

I won a sample pack awhile back and I used it to applique some blocks I was working on. I was amazed how easily it went through the fabric. It didn't tangle or knot or break. It was such a pleasure to use it. Thank you for the giveaway.

First I want to thank Aurifil for a fabulous thread that don't break and makes me feel like I just sewing with air. 2nd I want to thank my husband who went out to get me some more thread one night and came back with a few roll of Aurifl, they really made the quilt I was sewing stand out with color and was so even. I love a great thread, and Auriful fits the bill for me.
