You will find wonderful pre-cuts that coordinate with many of our new fabrics!

Macaron

We just want to wrap up in these…and just might!

I’ve had my eye on this wrap-around skirt pattern for a while & it just may be time to pick out 2 of the new lovlies and make this reversible skirt in time for spring!

and then there were just the leaves

a weekend focused on the UFO’s (and some spring cleaning).  I have just the leaves left to blanket stitch now!

Fabrics N Quilts On Point Medallion

Had a little scare while stitching.  My machine foot “clicked” and then the machine started racing, stitching away at light speed.  I was able to hit the stop button on the control board, but the foot would no longer work.  Good thing I have some brand loyalty, as a foot from one of my other Brother machines worked and I was able to finish my goal.

UFO update-On Point

I have stayed pretty focused the last 2 days.  After a bit of math, all the blocks are now square & sashed.  Points were sewn into sashing.  Stress was cast aside.

Even got almost all the applique fused on, going to cut all the leaves tonight by the light of the recliner.

on point progress

It’s a very low contrast thing.  Good for those missing points Smile.  I think I will select threads for the blanket stitching that will really help highlight the applique shapes.

Ah, progress!

(my wall was a bit too small to lay this out just right…plus the center square is not trimmed to size.  I know it looks a bit jumbled)

My oldest UFO-on deck

It’s time.  I have stalled long enough.  My oldest UFO has made it to the top of the pile.  Part of me says ‘Drats’, but part of me is excited.

On Point-002

I bought this pattern with the thought to make it my shop BOM…in 2008.

All the blocks are done, though I am a little scared to measure them.  I had only been quilting 3 years when I started this journey.  It went on the shelf that winter when I pieced that center block & it didn’t go together well…in that all the points were getting cut off.  I now can say, this pattern was above my ability then.

Now that I have pulled it all out, I think I will do the center applique option.  I have just enough of the background fabric, if I modify some sashing measurements.

On Point

I am also going to modify the sashing around my blocks.

On Point-001

so, wish me luck & straight stitches…here we go!

Busy Bees

Though I have been a pretty busy bee this week knocking out UFO’s, the Busy Bees I’m talking about today are these:

Fabrics N Quilts Busy Bees-001

I set out on this hand embroidering adventure in 2012 with the thought that the quilt would be given for Christmas that year.  So after missing 2 Christmas’ and a birthday, it is finally ready.

My BFF is a bee keeper, among about a jillion other things that keep her super busy.  My hope is that she can hang this in her quilting space and be in there enough to enjoy it!

Fabrics N Quilts Busy Bees

If you love it & want to check out the supplies, I used the Aunt Martha’s Busy Bees transfers & fabric from the Bee Yourself line.

and yay for a sunny, though windy day for pictures!

Mini HexNMore Mini Disco

I have to admit it…I am not usually a fan of working with small pieces.  Of all the piecing I have done with pieces under 2”, I think this one is in the top 2 .  So much so, that I could honestly say I’d make this again & again.  (Don’t forget the best part of small projects…they usually finish quickly too!)

Fabrics N Quilts - Mini Disco

That said, I did cheat just a bit from the pattern.  You’ll see that the pattern bound all those points.  Sorry, I am in a finishing mood & though it is a cooler look, I was looking for a FINISH.  If I hadn’t pointed it out, you’d still have loved mine just as much *wink*.

This takes under 1 charm pack (30 squares), the Mini Hex N More ruler & the Mini Disco pattern.  The quilt finishes at about 12” x 15”.  I quilted mine with a variegated Signature thread on top (f-253) & Aurifil 50wt in the bobbin (#2260).

We used Bobbins & Bits batiks for our project.  We have also made a kit of this project if you’d like one of your own!  We backed & bound our project with the red pinked edge batik from the same line. Grab your kit here:

I would emphasize using batiks in this project, as the tight weave will help you not press it out of shape.

Little Blue Bird Wall Hanging - a UFO finish

Last summer I treated myself to a long weekend of classes hosted by TVQA.  I will publicly admit that I was drawn in by the chance to learn machine applique from Pat Sloan.  It was everything I expected.

Tons of tips, lots of eye candy plus she & her hubby are just the nicest folks.  If you ever have the chance to take her class or see her lecture, don’t miss it.  If you schedule events for your group or guild, book her!

You can read more about my class in the original blog post here.

It’s a cloudy day here, so it was inside pictures again.

I played with some different quilting designs & ideas on this one.  Always learning, right?!

So it’s another UFO off the list!  Woot!

I’ve also made a big dent in the Dresden Plate quilt UFO too.  All my border half-plates are ready to applique!  There’s a snipet of the Dresden quilt in this blog post from last April (how embarrasing!)

Jaybird Quilt Patterns and Rulers now at Fabrics N Quilts

Love.  Pure Love!

How many quilters have avoided diamonds and hexagons based entirely on the Y (set in) seam?  Come on, raise your hand…with me…

Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts has developed the Sidekick ruler and Hex N More rulers with a myriad of corresponding patterns to overcome that dreaded Y seam.  Check out our selection of her rulers & patterns now!

We gave the Sidekick ruler a go-round last week & absolutely LOVE how easily our points matched up.

Unfortunately it’s not a good weather day for pictures, but I am ready to share…so forgive the pic quality.

Here is our version of Giggles using Robyn Pandolph’s Avoncliff

Fabrics N Quilts-Giggles

and our Seaside Table Runner made from Blank Quilting’s Dynasty (with a little Robert Kaufman in there to round it out).

p.s. Dynasty is our Deal this week…check it out!

Fabrics N Quilts-SeasideFabrics N Quilts-Seaside-001

The Sidekick ruler is such a great size, that I actually cut out all my pieces with my rotating mat while sitting in my recliner, feet propped up & TV tray in my lap.  Yes, I know, that’s not the picture most quilt teachers would paint for safe cutting, but it got me to this blog post a day faster!

Julie is a great social media gal.  She wants to celebrate your projects with you.  Each pattern has a hashtag to use when you share your projects.  I don’t know any other designer so excited to share your experience.  Kudos to Julie!  Search your fave social media channel for jaybirdquilts and follow her!

I also have the Night Sky lap quilt already cut out, but I am jonesing to try the Hex N More ruler.  Maybe I will squeeze in a Mini Disco first.

Jackie’s Tennessee Waltz quilt

Jackie created this stunning Tennessee Waltz quilt from the prettiest combination of fabrics.  Will ya look at those points?!

I quilted with Aurifil Mako 50 in the bobbin & Superior Omni in Bahama Sand (3148).  It was my first go-round with a poly thread & I LIKED it!  Relatively no lint in the bobbin area.

Want to make one?  Check out this link to Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson: Free Pattern

Enjoy the pics!
