A little Whoop Whoop for the seasons!

We have been feeling like seasonal projects lately, so whipped up this prairie point wall hanging

prairie point pumpkin

Great activity for hotel room…bring a baggie of 2.5” squares.  Make up a jillion prairie points while waiting for your event to start/bedtime!  I couldn’t settle on the quilting, so I quilted in the ditch between the background & border & then used the machine embroidery for the remainder of the quilting.

And I also finished around 10 feet yards of yo-yo garland for our shop Christmas tree

I used metallic floss for my stringer.  I think the best way to keep these from tangling in the “ off season” is to wrap them around a cardboard or plastic piece.  This one tangled just walking across the shop with it.  I made the garland in 3 sections; just easier that way.  These are the Large Clover Yo-yo maker-size.

Hope you enjoy our recent fabric adventures!

I am linking up with Sarah…go see what other cool projects got finished/made progress this week!

12 Days of Christmas, yo-yo style

I fell in love with the 12 Days of Christmas panel by Kate Spain the second I saw it.

I was jubilant to find a free pattern for a wall hanging, but uh-oh what’s that in the center?  Applique!  EEK!

I am a lover of applique, or I should say of OTHER’s applique.  I do enjoy the occasional raw edge, fused project.  But hand applique is just not in my love-of-quilting tool kit; maybe one day when life slows down a bit.

Now, applique yo-yo’s?  That’s the perfect kind of applique for me.  Same goes for English paper pieced hexi’s.  No raw edges, no fuss, no muss, no bother!

I used the Large (orange) Clover yo-yo maker for the tree & trunk, and the small & extra small makers for the ornaments.  I used metallic DMC floss to make the ribbons on each ornament.

12days tree

I quilted with Aurifil variegated thread that moves between red, green, cream & just a hint of white (luv luv).

Backed with a crazy quilt Christmas fabric by Debbie Mumm & bound with a candy cane stripe from the same line.

The red dot is from Saltbox Harvest by Deb Strain & the green is Robert Kaufman.  Those are accented by the rich gold marble.

There are so many ways to stretch your quilting muscle.  Don’t shrug off a pattern just because it employs a technique you don’t know or don’t enjoy.  Get out there & make projects your own.

I am linking up this post with “Can I get a Whoop Whoop?!”  Pop over & see what some very talented quilters whipped up this week!

Huntsville Fan Fare Quilt Show-eye candy alert!

Last weekend, I had the fun of heading south to the land of cotton

for a quilt show with the Heritage Quilters of Huntsville.

(requisite shot of the Space & Rocket Center)

It’s been a long time since I’ve been “home” and the visit was not long enough.

The HQH FanFare was a wonderful show & it was so refreshing to see mostly pieced quilts on display.  I love applique, but patchwork is my true love so I was in heaven!

Unfortunately, my camera was in Tennessee, so my pictures are via the cell phone.  Not bad, considering, but you will have to forgive the unfocussed shots.
