Another quilt from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 8

Last week I showed you the quilt I designed for Quiltmaker that is *actually* in the magazine.

Here is the quilt I designed from my tested blocks that’s just for ME!

(I caught the sun at the wrong time today when I snapped my pic, so it looks a little dark.  Sorry bout that!)

QM Vol 8

The magazine is packed full of all kinds of blocks (pieced, applique, paper pieced) and for all experience levels.  Those I tested were perfect for a seasonal quilt.

I used my word processing program to make the words.  And as usual, I forgot to reverse the image for the fusible applique.  I keep telling myself that if I do that enough times, I will eventually remember in advance.  At least I didn’t fuse the “bad” to fabric before I realized it.

If you’ve never checked out the 100 Blocks issues, grab this one.  I promise you’ll find more blocks to make than you have time to make them (isn’t that always the case?)

Quiltmaker is doing a blog hop this week too!  Check it out here:

Appliqued Yo-Yo Quilt top finished

One day I’ll be able to say I made a quilt entirely by hand.

Well, I can say that now, but not one I’d show off to anyone.  The first quilt I made was entirely by hand…and I am a self-taught quilter.  Go ahead, let your imagination run on that…yup, that’s what it looks like (eek).  That’s a story for a different day.

Today I can celebrate that the hand piecing is complete on my queen sized appliqued yo-yo quilt.

yoyo top done

You can see in the pic that the quilt is overlapped on the clothesline a pretty good bit.  I haven’t pressed my piecing yet, and my drop is 4 strips of yo-yo’s on each side of a queen bed & it’s pretty generous top & bottom too.

Next up is basting, then let the hand quilting begin.  I wonder if it will take 5 years to finish like the last one?  Let’s hope not!  But with that said, I am going to take a break from this project.  It’s been 2 years to get it to this point and I really just want to look at something else for a while.  To see other posts on this project (including pattern, etc.), click here.

I am diving into some wool for the winter.

Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Volume 8-Check out my quilt

I tested blocks for the 8th edition of 100 Blocks for Quiltmaker (and am testing for Volume 9 too).  It’s a fun process and pushes me to use techniques I sometimes avoid in my projects.

For Volume 8, I also designed a quilt using the blocks I tested.  And my quilt made it into the magazine!

I just received a couple copies and have to admit I’m floating about 6 miles above the ground right now!

Here are the pics I took of the quilt before I sent it off.  It will hang in the Quiltmaker offices until January, so if you are in Colorado…

I used another block for my label on the back.

The fabric is Robert Kaufman, including yummy Kona Solids.

Reserve your copy by e-mailing me.   Copies of the magazine go on sale November 19.
