Welcome to your new home, my mint green sweetheart

We have a new member of the family.  In all her minty green goodness, meet my new sweetheart:

She is a model 285J, and came with 2 manuals.  Kinda funny to me that one of the manuals is for model 285K, which seems like it would be later than the 285J.  She sews like a dream & came with a box full of what-knots & doo-dads from the prior owner’s sewing room.  Not sure how useable those things will be, but it will be fun to go through that box!

Ever wonder about your old machine?  If it’s a Singer, check out the Model # locator & you can also date your machine using the serial #

Minty here was made in Canada in 1963.

I believe we shall ring in the new year together.

More Crumb Blocks

I gave myself some ME sewing time today & played in my scraps a bit.

The crumb blocks are growing! (see where I started here)

The no rhyme, no reason of these blocks makes me so happy.  I also like thinking about all the projects these bits came from.  Stitchin’ memories over here….

My guilty quilty pleasure-Crumb Blocks

I generate a lot of scraps.  A lot of LITTLE scraps.

crumb basket

Trying to keep them under control, I like to make crumb blocks.  Let there be no mistake, this harvest basket is NOT all encompassing of my little scraps.  I just work a handful in at a time.  I think this keeps the blocks from getting boring & repeating fabrics.  I want a fabric explosion in my blocks.

I even take all the cut offs from making binding & piece them with other fabrics from other bindings making nice scrappy squares (right side of basket above).

This go round, I am cutting them 4.5”  I don’t know exactly what I am going to do with them yet, but that will come to me.  One day.  My thought is that I would insert them into a traditional block where a 4.5” square is used.  We’ll see.

Do you keep (and USE) your tidbits?

Quilt Block Inspiration

Yesterday, Quiltmaker magazine posted a tutorial to this super cute scrappy log cabin block on facebook.

Having a ton of scraps already cut into 2.5” strips, this really appealed to me, but I couldn’t get it out of my head to go even scrappier.  This morning I had to get it out of my head & into EQ so I could focus on other things.

Just 2.5” squares & 2.5” half square triangles.  Make it easy by strip piecing those scraps all you can!

Here’s an off the wall setting to ponder.
